Tonight I attended a Historical Dinner at Living History Farms in Urbandale.
I love a good decade themed party, but this my first 1900 event so I had no idea what to expect.

From the visitor center, we walked to the 1875 Tangen Home, where we sipped punch in the parlor. This was designed to generate small talk before dinner since most of us had never met.
What was the common link between our group? We are all bloggers! Contrary to what you might think, we were not the most outgoing group. But I’m sure we’ll have more to say online.
After the parlor we entered the dining room for a three (four if the ice counts) course meal.

First up, soothing tomato soup with homemade croutons! I used to be obsessed with homemade croutons and this reminded me of my favorite lunch in elementary school.

Next up some Lemon Fruit Ice. To cleanse our pallets. Obviously.

Now it’s time for the big stuff.

Roast Pork Loin, Dinner Rolls, Potatoes, Carrots, Peas, Cauliflower, and Butter, Butter, Butter.

The vegetables were so good and our chef, Lucy, gave us recipes for everything that we ate. How cool is that?
After dinner, we returned to the parlor for some “entertainment.” We played a word game, a heated game of 20 Questions, and Potato/Spoon (had to be there). Then it was time for a tour of the house.

We all agreed we could make room for dessert. Carmel Cake

+ Raspberry Sauce + whip cream

= delicious treat to end the night.

These nice folks were our guides into the past.

Thanks for a great night, Living History Farms! www.lhf.org
