Celebrating two special birthdays at Rube’s Steakhouse in Waukee. Big groups (11 of us!) make me a little nervous, well only if I feel the need to capture what everyone is eating! But Rube’s turned out to be a great place to gather around the grill and eat some meat.
First, a trip to the salad bar for your basic lettuce, potato salad, and pasta salad.

Don’t forget to order a b.i.g. beer

Next, it is off to the meat window.

Their full menu is here: https://rubessteaks.com/index.php/steakhouses/menu.html
But they conveniently were out of their cheaper options (grrr). I had planned to go with an 8oz sirloin or 8oz NY strip for $14, but had to make a more expensive change-up.

You know just posing with some meat.

Next, to the grill! To grill your own steak and toast.

I went with a Bacon Wrapped Beef Filet. For raw meat, it does look kind of good.

There are two grill options: charcoal and propane. Charcoal sounded like the better option, but the propane grill was open when it was our turn grill and we were getting hungry.
The grill throws off some major heat. Or maybe these two are just waving at their meals.

I don’t grill much, so I entrusted my cousin to take care of my meat. And he did a great job! One of my other friends was not so lucky and ended up charring her’s to a crunchy crisp. Bummer!

While he was grilling, I checked out the Potato Bar.

Buttery, buttery potatoes = delicious.

Yay, my meat is done! Nice hint of bacon wrapped around tender tasty beef.

Same bacon wrapped filet, but cooked rarer. (more rare?!)

Birthday Brownie Sundae for the table to share!

Good team work, boys!

The birthday girl approves.

We do look happy now that we are full. Like really full.

A rating of 6.5 out 10!
