Top 100 Des Moines Restaurants
#38 Cafe di Scala

Looking for somewhere special for my actual birthday dinner, I came across Cafe di Scala’s website, “The Cafe is noted as one of the most romantic restaurant experiences in the Des Moines metro area. The cuisine evolves seasonally, while our award winning wine list is chosen carefully to compliment each ingredient. Combining the philosophy of “fresh and local” along with desserts and homemade pastas crafted daily, guests will be greeted with both imagination and tradition.” www.cafediscala.com

Ok you convinced me!

My date went with the Pollo: Italian cheese, stuffed chicken breast wrapped with prosciutto, served with risotto and brussel sprouts. More things should really be wrapped with Prosciutto. This was tasty!

I choose the Cappellacci: roasted sweet squash stuffed pasta (homemade!) with romano and a browned sage butter sauce. On this chilly autumn night, this hit the spot. I was slightly turned off by the soupy appearance, but I was sliding my last bite around the plate to get as much buttery goodness as I could.

We shared a bottle of Moscato D’Asti. Sparkling wine adds to that celebration feel, don’t you think?

Did I mention it’s my birthday?

Seriously, thank you for that candle! I had a good birthday wish. :)

Italian Wedding Cake is the most popular dessert and it was delicious!

I wanted to take more pics of the B-E-A-U-TIFUL house, but felt like my camera flash was drawing away from people’s romantic atmosphere. So just took this one shot of the outside tables. You’ll have to come see the inside for yourself!

Just remember they have limited hours!
