#27 Sbrocco

Tonight’s meal brings me downtown to Sbrocco, located on Court Ave.

We couldn’t decide on just one glass off the extensive wine list so we went with wine flights.

A fun way to go.

I was desiring a meal of soup and salad (which I’ve heard is great here), but I decided to try something a little more adventurous for the blog.

Alaskan Skate Wing: polenta with blue crab and tiger shrimp, roasted grape tomatoes, artichoke concasse (french word for grounded) and shellfish nage. Polenta is a cornmeal, this with the crab and shrimp created a hearty seafood flavor. Everything under the skate wing was a bit cold. If it would have been warmer, I would have given it a 10. Great flavors.

The Linguine was also a bit cooler than desired. We found this odd because on this Friday night there were only four other tables filled in the place. The sauce was unique and had a good spice to it. I tried one bite of huge shrimp and found it mediocre.

Check out lunch and dinner menus at sbroccowine.com. There are many appealing items to choose from. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable and I promised to give her props for describing in detail what I was eating (those off menu items can be tricky!)

Going with an 7 out of 10.

After the show I checked out a play at the Des Moines Social Club. Americana Absurdum is going on through the 19th. A comical night of trying something new in town!
