I had a great time at Mojos on 86th last night! They obtain many ingredients from local farmers and support the Eat Local movement. So cool.

The menu rotates so this is some of what we had to choose from last night.

Started with some drinks. Both of those glasses of wine might be mine.

Extra sugar in the butter made for a sweet tasting bread.

For starters we choose Duck Confit Tamales: cranberry, salsa verde, smoke corn kernels. “Can we eat that?” “No that is husk. Just slide it right off of there.”
Tasted like a mini-thanksgiving.

I went with the Seafood & House-Made Andouille Jambalaya. Our waitress said it was on a 5 out of 10 on the spicy scale. I requested they bring that down to a 2 for me. rice, rock shrimp, bay scallops, fish, creole seasoning, onions, peppers, and crispy okra. I was hoping for flavor bursts from all those great sounding ingredients, but the spicy seasoning was still a little over powering. And I was expecting more meat and less rice.

Iowa Farm Families Pork Medallions include savory house-made chorizo & raisin bread pudding, Dixon Farms honey creams, toasted pecans and roasted carrots
This meal managed to seem high class and hearty at the same time.

View of the other side. I love bread pudding and this did not disappoint. The chorizo ingredient seemed a bit odd, but it was a nice blend that cooled the spice from the jambalaya.

The awesomeness of Mojos last night was in part due to the travelzoo.com deal I purchased last week. I paid $25 to get $72 to spend at Mojos. How cool is that?

I am giving it 7.5 out of 10. Relaxed, classy atmosphere. Friendly staff. Local ingredients. Creative food. I would definitely recommend it, especially if you have a coupon.
